2017 Cramble – report

This year’s Cramble was based in Nottinghamshire. On July 9th the group walked some 5 miles into Southwell, where they had lunch in the grounds of the magnificent Minster.

After lunch the group split into two – those wanting to explore Southwell, and those wishing to do a circular walk, following some of the Robin hood Way. Although those in Southwell were disappointed that the shops were mostly closed, they were able to visit the minster, or even the workhouses, a National Trust establishment on the outskirts of the town.

The day was blessed with good, sunny and warm weather, and the walks were enjoyed by all. To round off the day the group travelled to the Oakmere Golf club, where we were able to freshen up and enjoy a 3 course dinner together.

Those who took part in the day all said how much they had enjoyed it. However, there were fewer than 30 participants, and the club therefore made a financial loss on the day. The committee will have to decide whether to put on a similar event next year given the disappointing level of support.

Navigation for Walkers courses

Derek Jones, who runs these NNAS acredited courses, has recently contacted the club about the next round of courses he plans to run:

“I am starting a list of people interested in the next set of courses. How it works is when there are about 20 names on the list an email is sent to everyone asking what days and dates they cannot attend. The courses (3 x 4 hour sessions) are then arranged to suit the responses and are at levels one or two.”

Several club members have attended these courses in the past, and found them both enjoyable and of great value. If you would like to be added to Derek’s list for his next course, or want further information, please contact the club via our ‘Contact us’ page, and we will pass on your email to Derek.
